As much as I am intrigued as to where the Alice Worth series is headed, at this time, I’m not interested in continuing on...

This is both a strength, but also a minor critique, in that while I learned a lot, I sometimes found her almost mathematical blow-by-blow explanations of how the magic worked too clinical and almost boring. .

I went ahead and bought the next in the series instantly at the end, and not because of cliffhangers, folks, the story wraps up nicely in the first book, but because the story also introduced all kinds of potential conflicts and other baddies..

Review of book Heart of Malice / Alice Worth1 (Lisa Edmonds)

The first time Moses Murphy’s granddaughter killed on his orders, she was six years old. For twenty years, she was a prisoner of an organized crime syndicate, forced to use her magic to make Moses the most powerful and feared man on the East Coast. To escape his cruelty, she faked her own death and started a new life as Alice Worth. As a private investigator specializing in cases involving the supernatural, Alice walks a precarious line between atoning for the sins of her grandfather’s cabal and keeping her true identity hidden. Hired to investigate the disappearance of a mysterious object of power, Alice enlists the help of Malcolm, a ghost running from a past as nightmarish as her own. It soon becomes clear the missing object was taken by someone with a dangerous secret and an unknown agenda. When her client is kidnapped, Alice must find her and the object of power before a vengeful killer destroys the city and slaughters thousands starting with Alice.

Medium rating of  Dead Witch Walking (Kim Harrison) / Rachel Morgan 1 / The Hollows 1  (year 2004)  Rating  7 Stars   Goodreads Rating: 4,03

Opinion of  Dead Witch Walking (Kim Harrison) / Rachel Morgan 1 / The Hollows 1: Very good beginning of a new series of witches and vampires. Essential, to buy and enjoy.  Urban fantasy, romance, fae, murder, pixies, spells, witches, vampires, supernatural police, transformation, bewitched, apocalypse, capture, roommate, fire company, assassination attempts, investigation..

Blogs reviews:
Good pacing, good characters, and strong writing makes this read—even at 400+ pages—a quick one…and leaves the reader eager for more...

If you don't like reading about spells and witchcraft, this series is not for you, because Rachel spends a lot of time "stirring spells" as she calls it...

The writing was fabulous and just utterly perfect and surprisingly better than I expected. I read every book in Kim Harrison..

I first discovered Kim Harrison's Hollows series about seven years ago and I remember devouring the first 6 or so book..

Things that seem trivial now make sense in later books, and characters that seem secondary now are major later on..

There isn’t anything in the way of romance in this book. There’s some teasing between the friends and potential for romance with some sexy characters on the scene..

Although this series is not particularly fast moving, it is so character-driven that I was completely absorbed nonetheless..

I did grab a copy since it was on sale for $2.99 and I also picked up a discounted audiobook.  The narrator did a nice job but I didn’t like anything about this story enough to want to bother with book 2...

It’s a book that does a lot of work setting up its world, but manages to create interesting characters with compelling problems..
