RIDMARK ARBAN is the Gray Knight, banished and outcast from the High King's realm. Yet Ridmark alone sees the danger. The dread Frostborn shall return, and unless Ridmark can warn the realm, the Frostborn will entomb the world in ice forever. CALLIANDE wields mighty magic. Yet her memory is gone, her past forgotten. But her foes remember, and they are coming for her. GAVIN is the son of the praefectus of the village of Aranaeus, and men and women and children are disappearing from their homes as shadowy, bestial shapes prowl through the forest. Dragons have been extinct for centuries...can one young man bring them back?
Raphael was born with the mark of the dragon. His foster father taught him a mysterious and ancient magic unlike anything seen since the last dragon left the world. Now, at the age of 18, he is accepted into a guild of mages with the promise of learning more about his unique magic. Raphael's strange powers could very well lead to the return of the dragons. The road will not be easy, but Raphael will find friends along the way, each with their own paths of progression and magical fates.

In 2013, a gate to another world opened, and Elves used their magic to conquer Earth, crushing all resistance before them. Three hundred years after the Conquest, the exiled Elven High Queen rules an orderly but stagnant Earth, with humanity forced to fight in the High Queen’s war against the traitors on the Elven homeworld. Nadia Moran doesn’t care about that. She doesn’t care about the High Queen, or the Rebels seeking to overthrow her. All she cares about is getting her baby brother the treatments he needs to recover from his potentially fatal disease…and those treatments have a steep price. Fortunately, Nadia has magic of her own, and she’s a very, very good thief. Unfortunately, the powerful Elven lord Morvilind has a hold on Nadia. If she doesn’t follow his commands, her brother is going to die. Of course, given how dangerous Morvilind’s missions are, Nadia might not live long enough to see her brother’s death…

Three hundred years after the Conquest, the exiled Elven High Queen rules an orderly but stagnant Earth, with humanity forced to fight in the High Queen’s war against the traitors on the Elven homeworld. Nadia Moran doesn’t care about that. She wants freedom, and she wants power. Unfortunately for her, she has little enough of either. To make matters worse, her baby brother Russell is dying of a rare magical disease, and the only one who can cure him is the cruel Elven archmage Morvilind. If that were not enough, Morvilind demands a steep price for his cures. Specifically, he wants Nadia to use her skill and magic to steal treasures for him, and this time he’s sent Nadia to steal a priceless relic from the ambassador of the frost giants. And the frost giants never forget a grudge…

Elves, dwarves, swords, runes, magic creature, dragon, magic, sacrifice, romance, politics, smiths, metallurgy, false gods, outcasts, rebellion..

Opinion: Lower the level a bit compared to the first book. It is worth buying it, giving it away and lending it to whoever likes fantastic literature.

Review of Age of Swords (Michael J. Sullivan) / The Legends of the First Empire 2
Now the thrilling saga continues as the human uprising is threatened by powerful enemies from without and bitter rivalries within.

Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but long standing enmities dividing the Rhune make it all but impossible to unite against a common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess makes the Fhrey indistinguishable from gods?

The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feels nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind. With time running out, Persephone leads the gifted young seer Suri, the Fhrey sorceress Arion, and a small band of misfits in a desperate search for aid a quest that will take them into the darkest depths of Elan. There, an ancient adversary waits an enemy as surprising as it is deadly.

Since time immemorial, humans have worshipped the gods they call Fhrey, truly a race apart:
Review of Age of Myth (Michael J. Sullivan) / The Legends of the First Empire 1
invincible in battle, masters of magic, and seemingly immortal. But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever.

Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer; Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom; and Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people. The Age of Myth is over. The time of rebellion has begun.

Volume 6 Nine Kingdoms Series (Lynn Kurland). Gift of MagicVolume 6 Nine Kingdoms Series (Lynn Kurland). Gift of Magic (2012)
Sarah of Doìre knows the pattern of spells is no accident. With each page, each powerful rune, she and Ruith are being led somewhere, to someone but by whom, she cannot tell. Sarah's gift of sight only allows her to see the spells themselves, not the person behind them. A reluctant sorcerer still learning to trust his own magic, Ruithneadh of Ceangail knows he's woefully unprepared for the adversaries they'll face. But he and Sarah must collect and destroy his father Gair's spells soon. Many mages seek their power, and in the wrong hands, Gair's magic would plunge the Nine Kingdoms into an eternity of darkness. But as they pursue the final spells-acquiring strange companions, welcome allies, and unexpected foes along the way-Sarah and Ruith realize that their true quest has only just begun. The real enemy is closer, darker, and more power hungry than they ever imagined; and until he is defeated, the fate of the Nine Kingdoms hangs in dire peril.
